HYROX has over 9,000 affiliated gyms worldwide and more than one million athletes competing globally. It's the fastest-growing fitness competition format on the planet — and for gym owners, it represents one of the most straightforward affiliation opportunities available. Low barrier to entry, immediate brand alignment, and a built-in community of athletes who are actively searching for places to train. Here's everything you need to know to become an official HYROX Training Club.
What Is HYROX?
HYROX is a standardized indoor fitness race that combines 8 kilometers of running with 8 functional workout stations. Founded in 2017 by Olympic field hockey champion Moritz Fürste and Christian Toetzke, the first race was held in Hamburg in 2018. Since then it's expanded rapidly across Europe, North America, Australia, and beyond.
The format never changes: run 1km, complete one functional station, repeat eight times. Stations include ski erg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. Because the format is identical at every event worldwide, athletes can directly compare their times — which drives enormous engagement and motivation to improve.
As a gym owner, becoming a HYROX Training Club gives you the right to officially market HYROX training, run HYROX-branded classes, host race simulations and physical fitness tests, and get listed on the official HYROX Training Club Finder — where athletes actively search for places to train near them.
Two Affiliation Tiers
HYROX offers two levels of gym affiliation. The vast majority of gyms join as Training Clubs — it's designed to work with whatever space and equipment you already have.
Training Club
~$1,500/year (annual plan)
Any gym qualifies. No minimum equipment requirements. Ideal for CrossFit boxes, functional fitness gyms, boutique studios, PT studios, and bootcamps. Integrate HYROX training alongside your existing programming.
Performance Centre
Contact HYROX for pricing
Requires minimum ~1,938 sq ft of dedicated HYROX floor space and official CENTR and Concept2 equipment. Built to replicate race-day conditions. Includes geographic area exclusivity.
Quick math: At $1,500/year, a single new member joining specifically for HYROX training can cover your entire annual affiliation fee. The model is designed to be low-risk for established gyms adding a new revenue stream.
Requirements for HYROX Training Club
No Strict Equipment Mandates
For the Training Club tier, there are no hard equipment requirements — you can apply with whatever you have. HYROX recommends gyms have access to ski ergs or rowers, kettlebells, and running space (treadmills or a 1,000m loop), but these aren't enforced minimums. The better your equipment aligns with HYROX race stations, the better the training experience you can offer members.
The eight race stations use: ski erg, sled (push and pull), burpee platform, rowing machine, farmers carry handles, sandbags, and a wall-ball target. CrossFit gyms often already have most of this.
Physical Location and Online Presence
You need a main operating site (a physical gym or studio) and an online presence — either a website or an active social media account. Bootcamps and PT studios without a traditional gym space can qualify as long as they have a primary operating location and a way for the community to find and contact them.
Coaching Education
At minimum, coaches at affiliated gyms must hold a national personal training certification and complete two HYROX365 Academy courses. The Academy is delivered online through the HYROX365 portal. Coaches at affiliated gyms get free access to the Foundation Level course, with the ability to progress to Performance Coach level. Courses cover athlete development, periodization, biomechanics, race preparation, nutrition, and business strategy.
Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Annual Affiliation | ~$1,500/year | Best value. Roughly $125/month when paid annually. |
| Monthly Affiliation | $130/month | ~10% premium over the annual rate. 12-month term, auto-renews. |
| Coaching Education | Free (Foundation) | Foundation Level course included free for affiliated coaches. Advanced courses available at additional cost. |
| Equipment | Varies | No required purchases for Training Club. Most functional fitness gyms already have compatible equipment. |
There is no application fee — unlike CrossFit's $1,000 upfront charge, HYROX's process starts with creating a free account and selecting your payment plan. The affiliation term is 12 months with automatic renewal, cancellable at least 60 days before the end of the term.

What You Get as a HYROX Training Club
One important note: you cannot legally market or advertise "HYROX training" at your gym without an official affiliation. HYROX actively monitors for unlicensed use of the brand — so if you're already running HYROX-style training, formalizing the affiliation protects your business and gives you access to the full ecosystem.
Running Both CrossFit and HYROX
Many CrossFit affiliates are also HYROX Training Clubs — and the combination makes a lot of sense. The training modalities overlap significantly: functional movements, metabolic conditioning, and an emphasis on measurable performance. CrossFit boxes typically already have ski ergs, rowers, sleds, kettlebells, and wall-ball targets. Adding HYROX training requires minimal additional investment and opens your doors to a new segment of athletes who might not identify as CrossFitters but are drawn to the race format.
CrossFit NYC — one of the longest-running CrossFit affiliates in the world — became a HYROX affiliate and reported meaningful membership growth directly tied to HYROX event cycles and race sign-up periods. The key insight: HYROX gives athletes a purpose-driven reason to train year-round, and your box becomes part of that journey.

Common Questions
Do I need to own a traditional gym?
No. Bootcamps, PT studios, and other fitness facilities can all become HYROX Training Clubs. You just need a main operating site and an online presence — website or social media — so the community can find and contact you.
Can I cancel my affiliation?
Yes. The affiliation term is 12 months with automatic renewal. To cancel, you must notify HYROX at least 60 days before the end of your term through your HYROX365 portal account.
What if I don't have all the HYROX equipment?
For the Training Club tier, there are no hard equipment requirements. You can affiliate now and build out your equipment over time as membership grows. HYROX recommends having ski ergs, rowers, and kettlebells as a starting point, but this isn't enforced.
Can I host official HYROX races at my gym?
Training Clubs can host race simulations, HYROX Physical Fitness Tests (PFTs), and in-house competitions using the HYROX name. Official HYROX races are separate events organized by HYROX directly — Training Clubs aren't race venues, but they're the training grounds that feed athletes into those events.
Is HYROX a franchise?
No. HYROX affiliation is not a franchise. You retain full ownership and control of your business — you're licensing the brand and accessing the ecosystem, not paying royalties or operating under a franchise agreement. This is similar to the CrossFit affiliate model.
