Mary
Mary is a gymnastics-heavy benchmark. It rewards strict movement standards, shoulder endurance, and a pace that avoids failure. The score is total rounds plus reps.

The workout
- AMRAP 20 minutes:
- 5 handstand push-ups
- 10 pistols
- 15 pull-ups
How to approach Mary
Treat the first five minutes as a controlled start. Break pull-ups before your grip fails, keep pistols technically clean, and use a handstand push-up set size you can repeat for the full 20 minutes.
Scaling options
Substitute pike push-ups or dumbbell strict presses for handstand push-ups, use a box-supported single-leg squat or alternating reverse lunge for pistols, and use banded pull-ups or ring rows. Keep the round short enough to maintain continuous movement.
Movement quality first
This is not a good workout for learning inverted work under fatigue. Choose a version you already perform safely and consistently.
